Confused, Let me help you. Finland which is a country of 5.5 million people is all set to appoint its youngest-ever prime minister. Mrs. Sanna Marin, just 34, is all set to be Finland’s and the world’s youngest prime minister.
The powershift happened since the Centre party had lost its trust in the existing prime-minister of Finland, Antti Rinne due to the mishandling of a postal strike.
Who is Sanna Marin?
Mrs. Sanna Marin was born in Helsinki, the capital of Finland. The world is stunned by her rapid rise in the Finnish politics.
Mrs. Marin only at the age of 27 became the head of the city council in the industrial town of Tampere. She has been the Social Democratic Party’s vice chairwoman since 2015.
After getting elected as the youngest and third female leader of the country, she said, “I myself have never thought about my age or my gender, but rather about the issues for which I took on politics and about the reasons for which we were trusted in the elections.”
Mrs. Sanna revealed to a magazine how she was raised by same-sex parents and how her experiences have shaped her political career.
In an interview, she said “It is only now in the 21st century that the debate on rainbow families has begun quite openly.
She further stated that:
“We were not recognized as a true family or equal with others.”
“For me, people have always been equal. It’s not a matter of opinion. That’s the foundation of everything.”
Mrs. Sanna before becoming the youngest leader ever was appointed as the Minister of Transport and Communications in June this year.
Before Mrs. Sanna Marin, Ukraine’s Oleksiy Honcharuk aged 35 was the youngest serving state leader followed by Kim Jong-un,36, of North Korea, Nayib Bukele, 38, President of El Salvador and Jacinda Ardern who became the prime minister of New Zealand at the age of 39.
What’s New Cabinet Looks Like?
The entire cabinet is dominated by women leaders. The current government is a coalition of five political parties, all of which are lead by women.
Mrs. Sanna Marin is leading the newly formed cabinet being the country’s prime minister.
Mrs. Katri Kulmuni from Centre Party is the Minister for Economic Affairs. Kulmuni has been a Member of Parliament since 2015.
Mrs. Li Andersson who has been MP since 2015, is the Minister of Education. Li is also leading the Left Alliance.
Mrs. Anna-Maja Henriksson will be the Minister of Justice for the third time. Anna has been in parliament for over a decade and comes from the Swedish People’s Party of Finland.
Mrs. Maria Ohisalo, who represents Green League in the coalition, will continue as the interior minister of Finland.
